Focus on what the other person is saying and display interest through your eyes, facial expressions, body language, and vocal cues/responses. - Stop what you’re doing, and set aside your phone and other distractions.
- Face the speaker and maintain eye contact throughout the discourse.
- Set extraneous thoughts aside and concentrate on what the speaker is saying.
- Allow the speaker to finish their thought or better explain and clarify their idea before entering into the conversation(s).
- Have an open mind, try to put aside preconceived notions and judgments, and evaluate the speaker’s point of view.
